PUERTA DEL SOL La Puerta del Sol es uno de los espacios más famosos de la capital y punto de encuentro de los madrileños. Aquí se localizan dos símbolos característicos de Madrid. La estatua del oso y el madroño, que está realizada en bronce y fue colocada en 1967. Esta misma imagen también aparece en el escudo de Madrid, y simboliza la abundancia de ambas especies en los alrededores de la ciudad. Hay que destacar otra estatua situada en la plaza, igualmente de bronce y que representa al rey Carlos III montado a caballo. La plaza está rodeada por bellísimas construcciones, como la Casa de Correos, actual sede de la Presidencia de la Comunidad Autónoma, que fue construido entre 1766 y 1768. Este edificio, que fue la primera oficina de correos de Madrid, conserva en su fachada el reloj, que en su día estuvo en la iglesia del Buen Suceso, desde donde casi todos los españoles escuchamos las campanadas del 31 de diciembre. Por otra parte, el kilómetro cero está señalizado junto a la Casa de Correos por una placa y es el punto de partida de todas las carreteras españolas.
