This was a fusion flavoured week in Madrid. Morena Tropicana, a new restaurant brought to you by the experienced crew of Mistura Fina, a quality Brazilian restaurant celebrated among famed football players, has opened on calle Cuchilleros promising the best caipirinhas in town. The new venture counts a quaint downstairs cozy area with tables around a bar, and an chique candlelit upstairs with a few tables overlooking the Spanish cobblestone that leads to la Plaza Mayor. At the opening we were greeted with delicious Brazilian staple delicacies with a twist, small pao de queji (cheese bread), liquid feijoada shots with melon, codfish tartar, and empadas of different types. The owner, Malu, who went for a brilliant career as an advertising executive to venturing into the restaurant business in Spain, is a lovely and talented host, who will always greet you with laughter.

More flavour was a added to the city with the Platinum Pied Pipers concert hosted by the underground promoters Black Book Sessions. Read more about the PPP in the music sessions. I was at the show, and they are something, the singer channeling some Elvis Presley wishes he could be like this guy vibe. But really, keep looking for the Black Book Sessions events. This time they took over the Shoko sala on la calle Toledo, with the PPP show and a contemporary art exhibit by Abel Martinez aka Plaxtica. Jesus Lanikai brings a constant flow of contemporary music and energy to this town, respect, or in Spanglish we say "respetaaaar."
